New College of Florida Goes Solar

New College receives new solar array.

Sarasota-based solar contractor Brilliant Harvest LLC recently completed installation of an 11.97-kilowatt solar photovoltaic array on the campus of Sarasota’s New College of Florida. The array is made up of panels manufactured in Florida by SolarTech Universal.

The project included an intelligent inverter system to analyze performance and output and ensure maximum energy harvest for many years to come. The energy production of 18,000-kilowatt hours per year will offset consumption in the school’s new Heiser Natural Sciences Building.

The funds for this project came from the New College Green Fee, a small fee paid by each student that provides about $28,000 a year for sustainable projects on campus.
